TLC applied for formal Accreditation through the Land Trust Alliance in 2017 to demonstrate to ourselves and the community that the organization is doing things as well as possible to ensure that the lands we preserve and take care of today will be healthy and protected long after we are all gone!
It has been a challenging process, and while we hoped to hear a final decision in February, final action on our application has been postponed to August. In the meantime, there are a few issues that we will be clarifying for the Accreditation Commission to confirm that TLC has the best standards and practices in place today - to last forever!
The good news is that of the dozens of standards and practices reviewed - ranging from conflicts of interest, financial management, record keeping, and a whole host of "governance" issues, there are just a handful of issues related to conservation easement drafting and management that we still need to clarify.
