Thirty-six acres were donated to TLC in October through a long-standing partnership with the Boone Creek Watershed Alliance (BCWA).
The land, called Boloria Meadows, was originally preserved when BCWA purchased it in 2003 with a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Through BCWA’s diligent restoration of the property’s sedge meadow and oak woodlands, the land was dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve in 2005.
Boloria Meadows is the second Nature Preserve owned by TLC; Yonder Prairie was the first. By donating the land to TLC, BCWA board members showed that they trust TLC to take good care of the property and maintain – or even improve – the natural quality and habitats found there. The park can be accessed from a trail north of 7219 Millburne Court in the McAndrews Glen subdivision in Bull Valley.
The site steward for Boloria Meadows, Dennis Dreher, has a strong crew of volunteers for the monthly restoration events that run from October through March. Dennis will continue as steward, with TLC volunteers invited to join the restoration events on the first Saturday of the month. The next restoration day will take place on Saturday, November 4 at 9 a.m.
