Fifty oak trees for 50 years of marriage
A family’s thoughtful gift symbolizing 50 years of marriage was presented in February 2017 to Ted and Judy Thornton. “We felt so loved it really was incredible,” said Judy Thornton.
The Thorntons’ children Katie and Buzz contacted relatives who chipped in to purchase 50 oak trees from The Land Conservancy of McHenry County to honor their anniversary. The Thorntons’ are hoping to plant the oaks in the Crystal Lake area, particularly Veteran’s Acres.
Ted and Judy have been involved with TLC since the founding in 1991. Spending most of his life in the outdoors, Ted learned how to use a chainsaw at a very young age and helps at most restoration work days.
Judy Thornton also grew a love for the outdoors from a young age, and helps with office work and mailings. Her favorite part of volunteering for TLC is “protecting smaller parcels of property that allow greenways for animals and insects.”

The Thorntons’ hard work and loyalty to TLC is appreciated, and their legacy will live on through the 50 oak trees planted by their family soon.
