Common Ground Gathering Goes Virtual
Common Ground Gathering is an event that brings together farmers and farmland owners who care about producing healthy food for the community.
The main purpose is to get farmers and landowners to form working relationships that result in more land being used to grow food in a regenerative way. TLC has been co-hosting this event with our partners Soulful Prairie Farms and Liberty Prairie Foundation for the last three years. This year we wondered how we were going to hold an event that is 10% informational and 90% socializing and fun, and keep people safe. We decided to try the Zoom route, and somehow not lose the fun and social part. We’ll include the popular “Nutshell” presentations, where each person who wants to participate has two minutes to describe what they have, what they want or share their farm dream. Examples include farmers looking for someone to transition the farm to when they retire, landowners who have land they’d like to see farmed in a sustainable manner, a beginning farmer who has a plan but needs a mentor or some land to get started, etc. Our special guest this year is Marty Travis of Spence Farm in Fairbury, IL. We’ll be giving away some fun door prizes too.
