TLC welcomes Al Van Maren to the board
He owns an alpaca farm, worked in the commercial laundry service and helped grow 11,000 pounds of vegetables for the Harvard Food Pantry through the University of Illinois Extension last summer. Al Van Maren brings a diverse amount of knowledge to TLC as our newest board member.
Twelve years ago Al became interested in alpacas after reading an article that described the animals as a “huggable investment.” After researching seven different farms, he started his new retirement business, “AlsPACAS.” Today he successfully sells socks, sweaters and dryer balls.
Al helped develop the Farm Stroll event with the McHenry County Farm Bureau. The last weekend of September, people visit 10 different farms across McHenry County, learn about the farms and can purchase products and produce. The last two years, over 581 people visited his alpaca farm.
Al said he can bring a different perspective to The Land Conservancy because of his background in different organizations, running a business and fundraising. TLC welcomes Al Van Maren’s skills and knowledge to the organization!
