Harvard Gateway Park - Jan. 28, 2012 9-noon
Nearly 250 volunteer hours have been donated towawrds restoration of the future Gateway Park property in Harvard. Work days will continue on the last Saturday of each month in 2012, and able bodies are needed to help clear and stack brush from around the many ancient oaks on the property.
In addition to the money we are raising to purchase the land, TLC is hoping to raise 1,000 volunteer hours of restoration work!
The Land Conservancy is partnering with the City of Harvard, Dunham Township and other local partners to raise the funds to purchase the property, restore the oak woods, and create a small endowment fund for the property to help ensure it can be maintainted forever and does not fall into a state of neglect if future budgets get tight. The total we hope to raise is $194,000. To date, nearly $35,000 has been contributed through donations and 3-year pledges! That's 18%, and the campaign is just beginnning!!
Today, there is a sign right across the road from the possible park that reads "Harvard. Success comes naturally here." Just imagine the sign as a reflection of the real Nature Park some day!
