Sterling Joins Land Conservancy Board The Land Conservancy of McHenry County is happy to announce the addition of John R. Sterling of Woodstock to the Board of Directors. Sterling is President of John Sterling Corporation in Richmond, a manufacturer of home improvement hardware such as shelf brackets, closet hardware, and door tracks. John is the third generation to run the company which was founded in 1931 by his father and grandfather in Chicago. In 1970, John went to work for his father. He became President of John R. Sterling Corporation in 1984. Sterling is a graduate of Stanford University, and served with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic for two years before going to work for his father in 1970. Sterling and his wife, Betty, live near Woodstock. They have two sons, ages 17 and 20. Sterling grew up in the rural McHenry County countryside north of Crystal Lake, in an area that is now developed with many subdivisions. He is involved with the Land Conservancy because he wants to be part of helping to preserve open land in McHenry County. |
