Woodstock, IL - The Land Conservancy of McHenry County was awarded grants from the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation of Chicago to support the implementation of the organization's strategic plan. "The Donnelley Foundation has been a good friend to the Land Conservancy during this critical phase in our development. They provided a grant in 2001 to help us hire our first Executive Director, and are continuing to work with us as we build our capacity to protect important open space resources throughout McHenry County," said Board President Steve Wenzel. Over the coming two years, this generous funding support will help the Land Conservancy to: reach out to nearly 300 landowners at some of the most precious natural areas remaining in the county; continue efforts with the McHenry County Farmland Preservation Alliance; work with more units of local government in an effort to incorporate more open space and natural resources into future development; and build a stronger membership program. The Land Conservancy of McHenry County is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of open space and natural lands in McHenry County. By working with private landowners, communities, and developers, the Land Conservancy has permanently protected 270 acres of open land.
