Love the Land! - Restore a Natural Area

042812 clarence adam dick 385x289Spring has sprung and TLC needs volunteers to help local natural areas. Join us at events where volunteers will cut, stack and burn invasive brush that are threatening the health of our natural heritage.

Saturday, May 11th , 9am-noon, Windy Knoll Conservation Area, McHenry

Volunteers will gather to clear brush and invasive trees from this TLC wetland north of Crystal Lake. We've really opened this site up this year, the wildflowers should explode this summer!

Directions: From Crystal Lake, take Walkup Road north, and continue onto Crystal Lake Road. Take the first left onto Anvil Road into the Windy Knoll subdivision. Continue left where Anvil turns into Coachlight, then take a right onto Swinford. Swinford will end at SweetBay Drive, and our site will be just to your left!

Sunday, May 12th, 10am-1pm, Yonder Prairie, Woodstock
Yonder Prairie was awarded the highest level of environmental protection in Illinois- Nature Preserve Status! This 43 acre site has undergone a dramatic environmental restoration in the last couple years, let's keep up the good work!

Directions: From the intersection of Kishwaukee Valley Road at Rose Farm Road just west of Woodstock, head south on Rose Farm for 0.3 miles. There will be a hidden drive on the east side of the road just before an open field. Park on the side of the road. Nearest Address: 1150 S Rosefarm Rd, Woodstock, Il

Wednesday, May 15th, 10am-1pm, Zoost/Weier Conservation Area, Island Lake
Help save some oak and hickory trees! There are only oaks on about 1/4 acre, but the dense brush is still preventing any baby oaks from growing. This is one of our brand new sites that we acquired in 2011 and 2012.

Directions: From the intersection of 176 and Roberts Road in Island Lake, go south on Roberts Road .5 miles. Turn left (east) onto Lamphere, and the site is at the northeast corner of the intersection. Park along Lamphere. Nearest Address: 28988 Lamphere Rd, McHenry.

No experience necessary, just wear your work clothes and a pair of work gloves! We'll have water and something sweet (like brownies!), and at some events, something hot for lunch when the work is through.
