YES! Farmland is an economic resource;
a major component of the economy
in McHenry County, Illinois.
McHenry County farmland is among the richest soil
in the entire country.
The potential productivity of the
remaining farmland will continue to be an economic force
if allowed to continue in the county.
The vision of the Farmland Preservation Alliance:
To have an active, thriving agricultural economy
in McHenry County.
News
Agriculture and agriculture-related business is a MAJOR
part of the McHenry County economy: - Gross sales of agricultural products in 2002 topped $90 million
- Net cash farm income in 2002 was nearly
$12 million
- 201 farms had
sales of over $100,000 that year

Farmland continues to be challenged for its value as
development land, but there is a growing awareness that
farmland contributes significantly to: - the "quality of life" character it provides to residents
- the value of the county's economic health and welfare
- recharge of vital groundwater resources
There
is a growing movement in McHenry County to find ways to preserve farmland.
Several organizations and individuals have joined together as the
McHenry County Farmland Preservation Alliance.
We want to hear from you
the landowners.
Ultimately, a program will only work if there are
willing participants who wish to voluntarily sell or donate development
rights on their farmland in order to keep it in agricultural production.
