Crowley Sedge Meadow
"Adopt an Acre" Campaign
Help us bring this site to life!
|
In 2003, The Land Conservancy purchased this 6.7 acre site, located between Harvard and Alden, just west of Route 173, off of Crowley Road. Dominated by a high-quality sedge meadow, a portion of Mokeler Creek and a small wooded area—this is one of the nicest remaining natural areas in McHenry County. TLC has a dream of building an endowment for the Crowley Sedge Meadow site to ensure that the organization will always have the ability to take care of it.
For as little as $5, you can help TLC make this dream a reality. This project represents an important opportunity to maintain and enhance a remnant wetland area that contributes to the water quality and natural habitat in this area of McHenry County.

$5 adopts 1 sq. Yard
$20 adopts 5 sq. Yards
$200 adopts 1/100th Acre
$2,000 adopts 1/10th Acre
$10,000 adopts 1 Acre

|
As funds become available, the woods will be restored to an oak savanna and the invasive reed canary grass will be removed from the sedge meadow and creek corridor. A permanent endowment will ensure that the site will be taken care of forever. |
Volunteers work at the site four times a year, slowly removing the invasive species
to restore the area to a high-quality natural habitat As more restoration funds are raised,
we will be able to contract for restoration work. This will yield quicker results, allowing
volunteers to shift their efforts to
maintaining the site rather than restoring it.
Any contribution to this campaign is tax deductible. Those adopting 1/10th Acre or more will receive a Certificate of Adoption and a framed photo of the "Crowley Sedge Meadow."
