Ecological Burn Training - Sign Up Now!


For Landowners and Natural Areas Volunteers

The Land Conservancy of McHenry County is offering Ecological Burn Training on
Saturday, March 29th from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.
The morning classroom session will be at the TLC office, 4506 S. Dean Street in Woodstock,
and the afternoon session will include a demonstration burn at a nearby natural area.
No previous experience is required.  The cost is $20 for TLC members,
or $35 for non-members, which includes a one-year membership.

Registration is required. Space is limited and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

9:00 – 12:00 pm

Classroom instruction. Topics to be covered include:

  • Why fire is important to the ecology of the area
  • The tools that are used during prescribed burning
  • Safety consideration in conducting a prescribed burn (including smoke issues)
  • How to conduct a prescribed burn (including responsibilities for crew members and how to handle various situation)
12:00 – 12:45 pm
Lunch Break
1:00 – 3:00 pm
Controlled burn at Westwood Park in Woodstock.
Dress for the weather.
Wear work boots, not gym shoes.
